Tukaram is first a devotee of Lord, and then he is a poet. On this
website Tukaram is presented as a Marathi poet. But as we see the life of
Tukaram Maharaj, he is a great devotee of Lord Vitthal. Lord Vitthal gave
power to Tukaram to write abhangs. Please do not compare Tukaram
with Shakespeare, Tukaram is a saint and Shakespeare is just a poet. His
abhang is not ordinary poetry, but it is the instruction of the Lord to people
through his devotee. But it is a good attempt to have a website of saint Tukaram. We can read Tukaram Gatha on the web while working on Computer

Excellent work. It also informs of the cultural fusion of Sindhis into
Maharashtra.The Marathi poet literature composed by Sant Tukaram is absolutely
simple and easy to understand. With extremely deeper mystical poems (abhanga
as it is locally called) which are very simple and beautiful. Sindhis stand to gain
from it. It is the work of the saints and later Shivaji Maharaj which laid to the
foundation of modern day Maharashtra.This site was much needed for
Sindhi people to know the literature of JAGADGURU...SANT SHIROMANI...as
Tukaram is often referred to.

Its nice to read the verses in Kannada as I reside on the border of Maharashtra, from where Pandharpur is near. I had heard Abhangas in Marathi many times but did not understand much. Recently when I was arranging old books of my father, I got a small book in English on Sant Tukaram and then I started to love Tukaram and Vithoba.
